Literature Text

You were here with me, today.
We crept along the cedar glade
and spied that pine plum thing.

You spoke of that old battle
and stories of the Civil War.
I listened, quiet, images imagining.

You remarked Tennessee was pretty,
but Idaho more heavenly dignity.
And I, the Tennessean, most pointedly disagreed.

I turned and saw the place where you should be,
realizing your presence only Heinsburg uncertainty
and that truly you are miles and miles away from me.

Tennessee has rare Cedar glades and a plant (the pine plum thing) that is native to only Tennessee.

There was a Civil War battle that occurred at a Tennessean cedar glade with that silly plant.

I wrote this poem when I toured the historic park reminiscing about a friend who would have known and woven a story of the past events.

But, c"est la vie, the friend was not there, as the poem states.
